LETTER OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI
ON THE OCCASION OF THE SECOND CENTENARY
OF THE PRINCIPALITY OF LIECHTENSTEIN
To His Serene Highness,
Prince Hans Adam II of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein has been a sovereign State for 200 years. Deeply grateful to God, I gladly join in the joy of the Prince's Family and of all People of Liechtenstein on the occasion of this special Jubilee.
From modest beginnings, a flourishing Country developed, surrounded by other larger countries but with a similar cultural stamp. Under the Prince's wise guidance, it preserved its own identity and, in the course of time, has earned respect.
Essential elements of this identity are the firm roots in the Catholic faith of Liechtenstein's inhabitants and their faithfulness to the Chair of Peter. This is proven by the Christian traditions that are deeply rooted throughout the Country.
May the faith of the ancestors further deploy its power! May the Lord God lay his hand in blessing upon the People and the Country, so that peace and well-being may continue to prevail in Liechtenstein!
As a pledge of abundant divine graces, through the intercession of Mary, Most Holy Virgin and Mother of God, I impart my Apostolic Blessing to the Prince's Family and to all Liechtenstein's inhabitants.
