DISCORSO DI SUA SANTITÀ PIO PP. XII
AL CORO DELLA CITTÀ DI REYKJAVIK*

Sala del Concistoro - Mercoledì, 8 aprile 1953

Mr. Director and dear Gentlemen, T has given Us the greatest pleasure to receive you today, and to hear your magnificent choir of Reykjavik. We offer Our sincere congratulations to you, Mr. Director, and to the gentlemen of your choir on the exquisite quality of the music, with which you have delighted Us. It was particularly gratifying to Us to hear, in the strains of your National Anthem, a vibrant spiritual echo from the heart of your beloved fatherland.

Beautiful music is a universal language, that speaks directly from heart to heart, over distant seas and across the frontiers of nations. In this language, you today, and your whole people through you, have spoken to Us, and We express Our cordial gratitude. And in token of Our affection We invoke the choicest blessings of the Risen Lord of Life upon you all, your families and friends, for the peace and prosperity of your lovely country.
