LETTER OF PAUL VI TO PATRICK WEBSTER,
APOSTOLIC ADMINISTRATOR OF ST. GEORGE’S IN GRENADA

To Our Venerable Brother Patrick Webster
Apostolic Administrator of St. George’s in Grenada

It is our pleasure to ask you, Venerable Brother, to present Our greetings to the Government and people of the Island of St. Vincent, of the Lesser Antilles, on the occasion of the accession of that Island to the status of Associated State with Great Britain, as a member State of the British Commonwealth.

We desire to be associated with the people of that Island in the joy of their celebrations, and, with regard to the future, we pray that they may continue ever to advance in moral, spiritual and material good.

To the civil authorities We offer Our sincere good wishes and extend the hand of warm friendship in congratulating them on the new status. We pray that abundant heavenly graces may be with them in their increased responsibilities, and that the government of their people may be blessed with peace and justice. We give assurance that the Church will continue to help and cooperate in its beneficial mission of spiritual and social assistance.

We ask you also, Venerable Brother, to convey to the clergy and faithful Our special fatherly greetings, so that at this historic point in the history of their Island they may have a pledge of Our continued paternal regard, and invoking divine guidance and abundant heavenly graces, We lovingly impart to you, and to all Our beloved children of the Island who are celebrating their Statehood Day, Our paternal Apostolic Blessing.

From the Vatican, October 27, 1969.

PAULUS PP. VI
